This text is concerning the Dire Straits music. For the best hits album, see Sultans of Swing: The Very Better of Dire Straits.
“Sultans of Swing” is a music by British rock band Dire Straits from their eponymous debut album, which band frontman Mark Knopfler wrote and composed. Though it was first launched in 1978, it was its 1979 re-release that induced it to develop into a success in each the UK and U.S.
The music was recorded at Pathway Studios, North London, in July 1977 and shortly acquired a following after it was placed on rotation at Radio London. Its reputation quickly reached report executives, and Dire Straits have been provided a contract with Phonogram Information.
The music was then re-recorded in February 1978 at Basing Road Studios for the band’s debut album. The report firm wished a less-polished rock sound for the radio, so another model was recorded at Pathway Studios in April 1978 and launched as the only in some nations together with the UK and Germany.
