“Sultans of Swing” is a track by British rock band Dire Straits from their eponymous debut album, which band frontman Mark Knopfler wrote and composed. Though it was first launched in 1978, it was its 1979 re-release that induced it to grow to be successful in each the UK and U.S.
The track was recorded at Pathway Studios, North London, in July 1977 and rapidly acquired a following after it was placed on rotation at Radio London. Its reputation quickly reached document executives, and Dire Straits have been provided a contract with Phonogram Information.
The track was then re-recorded in February 1978 at Basing Avenue Studios for the band’s debut album. The document firm wished a less-polished rock sound for the radio, so another model was recorded at Pathway Studios in April 1978 and launched as the one in some international locations together with the UK and Germany.
