AMERICAN THEATRE | The Subtext: Inda Craig-Galván’s Seek for Self-Expression

Every month on The Subtext, Brian speaks with a playwright about life, writing, and no matter itches we’re scratching.

This month Brian talks to Inda Craig-Galván, who writes for theatre and TV, usually concerning the theme of intra-racial battle and politics inside the African American group. Her performs embody Welcome to Matteson!, which had NNPN rolling world premiere at New Jersey Repertory Firm, Congo Sq. Theatre, and Orlando Shakes; and several other performs in Los Angeles, together with The Nice Jheri Curl Debate at L.A.’s East West Gamers, successful canine holler in a co-production of Skylight Theatre and Playwrights’ Enviornment, Black Tremendous Hero Magic Mama on the Geffen Playhouse, and I Go Someplace Else at Playwrights’ Enviornment. Inda is the recipient of the Kesselring Prize, Jeffry Melnick New Playwright Award, Blue Ink Playwriting Prize, Jane Chambers Scholar Award for Feminist Playwriting, and Stage Uncooked Finest Playwright Award. Inda’s performs have been included on the Kilroys Listing twice and Steppenwolf Theatre’s The Combine, and he or she is at the moment creating new works of theatre on fee with The Previous Globe and Spherical Home Theatre, and a brand new play with the CTG Writers Group. Her TV work consists of Will Trent, Comfortable Face, How you can Get Away with Homicide, and The Rookie.

With Brian, she discusses her beginnings in Chicago sketch comedy, her transfer to L.A., her near-detour into forensic pathology, and the challenges of grad college as an older, extra mature scholar.
