Puerto Rican rapper Álvaro Díaz’s contemporary tackle his biggest hits on the Tiny Desk introduced all of the sal and soul of the Isla to NPR.
Opening with jazzy piano and synth riffs that evoked a candy ocean breeze on “Todo Bien,” he rapidly set the tone for the live performance, throwing a shout-out to his mama, the inspiration for the monitor. Switching to “Chicas de la Isla,” he used easy, electrical guitar and gorgeous background vocals for a rendition of the primary track he ever made, conveying a relaxed vitality match for a jam with buddies.
After years of collaborating with every kind of Puerto Rican artists from Jowell & Randy to Unhealthy Bunny and everybody in between, regardless of being heart stage for his Tiny Desk, Díaz took the chance to share the area with a complete crowd of Tiny Desk veterans and newcomers from all throughout the island. The group really feel of his music fueled the vitality and excellence of each single musician he shared the Desk with.
